"We are not waiting for pandemics to announce what we are doing to make a little show and take some pictures to impress people." -Evangelist Dag

In his address to a global audience of several thousands streaming on various Internet platforms and those listening on air and watching on television, Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills said, "We don't wait for pandemics to look for the poor...even this time, we've sent all the beggars in Accra Mobile Money...because we can't go to them. We look after them every month. We provide social services for them. We provide them with money, because what they need is money and clinic and everything for them...all the time...large numbers of these people and prisoners in Accra. We are not waiting for pandemics to announce what we are doing to make a little show and take some pictures to impress people. That is not what we need. The Church is the main thing. Have you thought of sending...people who are begging on the road side and blind...? We have assembled all of them and registered them. We have registered them ourselves as our own social services and we look after them because they are not looked after by any government. So in this time we are now sending them...because we can't do social interaction...we have sent Mobile Money to all of them. You can call them and ask them. It's not about taking pictures."

The man of God, Bishop Dag, said this at the Global Good Friday Service on Friday, 10th April, 2020. This should definitely be a powerful example and message to others venturing to carry out philanthropic initiatives. As Jesus said, ""Examine your motives to make sure you're not showing off when you do your good deeds, only to be admired by others; otherwise, you will lose the reward of your heavenly Father. So when you give to the poor, don't announce it and make a show of it just to be seen by people, like the hypocrites in the streets and in the marketplace. They've already received their reward! But when you demonstrate generosity, do it with pure motives and without drawing attention to yourself. Give secretly and your Father, who sees all you do, will reward you openly."" (Matthew 6:1-4, The Passion Translation)

The Founder of the UD-OLGC gave a deeply insightful exposé on the reality of hell and the power of the blood of Jesus to save. His message was aptly entitled "Don't Perish!"

Reading from John 3:15,16, which says, "That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life," the man of God taught that God's desire is for none to perish. 

He  explained that the Blood of Jesus brought Jesus from the dead (Hebrews 13:20,21).

Adding, he pointed out that to perish means to be destroyed fully or entirely put out of the way. Perishing means going to hell. Reading from a cluster of portions of Scripture, including Philippians 2:9,10; Ephesians 4:8-10; Revelation 5:2-3,13; Exodus 20:4, Bishop Dag noted that there is indeed a real place known as hell. He indicated that in his lifetime, he knew at least two people who had gone there. Furthermore, he pointed out that there are millions of people under the earth (Numbers 16:30)

Bishop Dag adumbrated six regions of hell as follows:

1. Sheol/Hades (see Matthew 11:23)

Hades is the source of many evil spirits that oppose the Church (Matthew 16:18). This is where the rich man went (Luke 16:23). It's the destination of souls (see Acts 2:27; Revelation 20:13: 1:18)

2. Paradise (see Luke 23:43)

There is a part of hell called paradise, which is a park (see Revelation 2:7)

3. The Pit/Abyss (see Luke 8:30,31; Romans 10:7; Revelation 9:1-4,7,8)

4. Tatarus 

Fallen angels are kept here. (See 2 Peter 2:4,5; Jude 6)

5. Gehenna 

Thus portion was named after a dead valley full of filth. Hypocritical religious people go to Gehenna (see Matthew 5:22,30; Matthew 23:15,33)

6. The lake of fire (see Revelation 20:10,11)

"The Gospel is packaged in simplicity," he said.

Bishop Dag went on, "Live for Jesus and serve Him. Just believe in Him. Give yourself to this glorious mission unreservedly. Only the blood of Jesus saves."

It was indeed a Good Friday!

Do you know this Jesus? Remember, God does not want you to perish! If you want to be saved, let us pray:

"O Lord God, I come to you just as I am- a sinner. I believe today that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe that you sent Him to die on the cross to pay for my sins. And right now, I receive forgiveness for my sins by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. I ask you to wash away my sins with the blood of Jesus. I confess that Jesus is Lord of my life because I believe that you raised Him from the dead. Today, I invite Jesus Christ into my heart to be my Lord and my Saviour. Thank you for saving me. I receive eternal life into my spirit, in Jesus' Name. Amen."

Your Motives Matter!

If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

Whenever I am doing something, I think in terms of why I am doing it. I am always cautious about my 'why' for doing what I do. Is it to please others? Is it to please myself? Is it to help others? Is it to glorify God? Why am I doing what I am doing? Is it in obedience to what God has instructed?

By observing the life of Jesus and his interactions with the Pharisees, you'd notice that Jesus had a deep sense of indignation for hypocrisy- doing things in order to get the praise of men rather than God (see Matthew 23).

Learn to think deeply about your motives for doing whatsoever you do. In the theme verse, you'd notice that Paul the Apostle teaches that once that which you do is void of love, it is useless and will not benefit you in any way.

Even though there are material and eternal benefits that giving brings us, we need to realize that our motive for giving should be love.

You could liken your motive to a driving force or that which you look forward to as a return.

It is good to assess your motives from time to time because your motives are actually the underlying factor for which you do what you do.

Let me share with you three basic motives that should drive your actions:

• Love 

1 Corinthians 16:14 says, "And do everything with love."

Love for God and love for other people should be your overarching purpose for doing all things.

• The Glory of God

1 Corinthians 10:31 says, "So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

Bringing glory to God is also the ultimate purpose for all that we do. Do it that God may receive praise, honour and glory. It is should be pleasing in His sight. See how the sacrifice of Jesus was a sweet-smelling sacrifice in His nostrils (Ephesians 5:1-2). No wonder Jesus announced that your good works should cause men to give glory to God (Matthew 5:16)! Jesus was always particular about doing things publicly for fame and the approval of men-- so He taught us to give, fast and pray in secret, so that God, who sees in secret, would reward us publicly (Matthew 6:1-7).

• As unto the Lord

Colossians 3:17 says, "Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people."

No matter who sent you to do something or what they asked you to do, if it is honourable and pleasing in God's sight, do it as though you are doing it for the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. Never do things shabbily because you think it's for someone who is not 'your class'. Conversely, never do things very well because you think it's for someone who is mighty, rich and will favour you. That amounts to hypocrisy and makes you a men-pleaser! Do it well, irrespective of the one for whom you are doing it, knowing that you are accountable ultimately to One Person- the Lord Jesus Christ!

Your motives matter! Assess them! Do everything in love, for the glory of God and as unto the Lord!

Live in God's Reality!

Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

Colossians 1:13

God has made His Word available to us so that our lives will be for His glory. The mind of God is revealed in His Word. God's Word is the Truth (John 17:17). Nothing else that is contrary to it stands. Every other thing that does not line up with the Word of God is unreal. In other words, the Word of God is the basis upon which everything exists. No wonder John said nothing was made without the Word (John 1:3).

When you are born again, you are called to live a life of faith. Christianity is a walk of faith. We walk by faith not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). Thus, that which pertains to the senses are not the determinants of the course of our lives. That which determines the course of my life is my reality.

I am supposed to choose my reality. In which realm do I choose to operate? Which system governs my life? Is it the system of God's Kingdom or the system of the devil's kingdom. It depends on you!

You must make a choice even though you are a child of God. God's reality is where you must live. Live in His reality- His Word. That's where you find rest! That's where you find peace! That's where you find joy!

Outside of God's reality (which is His Word) there's only chaos and uncertainty!

Some people have experienced so much of the effect of world's system that they no longer even believe that God's reality is real.

You see, in the Kingdom of God, you do not have to see before you believe; you believe even though you have not seen. You acknowledge the sovereignty of the Word even though you have not seen its manifestation yet. In truth, your eyes of faith should be the eyes you use to perceive everything in every circumstance every day.

For example, the Bible says that by Jesus' stripes you were healed. Now, maybe you feel a headache. The reality of God, which is His Word, is that you were healed 2,000 years ago. Therefore, in God's mind, he has already healed you. You've been made whole already! "Then, why do I still feel the pain?"  The pain is not your reality. Your reality is health and strength. Believe that in your heart and confess it! Speak it forth concerning yourself.

Choose to see from God's Reality- His Word; that's how you
will be able to live in His reality!

Many of God's children are burdened with guilt, condemnation and unworthiness. I would to God that they'd just pick up their Bibles and read Romans 8:1: "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus." God has declared you not guilty!

Or maybe, they could turn to Romans 5:1: "Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." Or they could turn to 2 Corinthians 5:21: "He was made to be sin, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him."

What a blessing the Word of God is!

As you meditate on the Word of God, believing what it says and talking and acting in a corresponding manner, you will literally manifest the glory of it to the world around you.

The principle is:

# See what God says.

# Believe what you've seen.

# Talk that way despite your circumstances.

Live in God's reality!
