For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
(Mark 10:45)
There is a place for consummation of all things. The place for consummation for marriage is in reproduction. The place for consummation of education is in examination. The place for consummation of our salvation is in us being filled with all the fulness of God. Simply put, there is that point in every environment or sphere where you reach its peak, where the main thing is.
Jesus Christ came to serve. His life was marked indelibly by love and humility and he consummated His service by laying down his life for His friends (John 15:13).
The beauty of service is sacrifice because in sacrificing, we go beyond the ordinary. We are stretched beyond measure and the life, as it were, is sapped out of us.
Our service to God is a sacrifice unto Him. No wonder Paul writes, "Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour." (Ephesians 5:1-2).
We can only see the beauty of Christ manifested through us when we have given it all up- our bodies, our lives, our selves, our desires, passions, cravings and wants. When we lay them all down at His feet, on the altar of love, we are united with Him in His death.
The beauty of service is in sacrifice!
Remember Romans 12:1?
