[Quotidian #2] How to make the Gospel News

by Reinhard Bonnke

A schoolboy once asked, "How can you call something news that is two thousand years old? Jesus is history, not news." The boy made a mistake. Only dead people are history. Jesus is alive and active throughout the world. He is a world figure and all world figures are news, especially this One.

The word 'gospel' comes from the Old English 'god' (good) and 'spell' (message), which is the translation of the Greek 'evangelion'. The gospel is not only what Jesus did but also what He does. Acts 1:1 states, "The former account I made...about all that Jesus began both to do and teach." He began to do it, and He is still doing it. He is making news today.

Two thousand years are nothing to Him. The sun is old but active. The Bible is old but powerful. If a telephone directory contains the right numbers, it does not matter how old it is. When I take the Bible and use it, I get though to the throne of God. The Gospel is God's Word.

One of the greatest minds of modern times was that of Immanuel Kant (1724-1804), the German philosopher. He said, "The existence of the Bible is the greatest blessing which humanity ever experienced." It is, if it is preached. But it is a major occupation of some in the Church to spend time merely trying to find out who wrote it and when, as if it mattered. Meanwhile, millions die of spiritual hunger and are lost forever.
