When I was a teenager, our family used to live at Sakumono Estates. At the time, I was in JHS in De Youngster's on the Ring Road Central. So early every dawn, my mum would wake us up to go for our bath and get ready for school, because it was close to an hour's journey. As well, she did not want to risk us getting stuck in traffic.
I remember particularly that I liked to look out the window on my way back from school. As I looked, one thing always caught my eye which I wanted for myself along the Teshie-Nungua road.
They were crafted nicely. Some looked like Mercedes Benzes. Others looked like birds. Still others looked like varied car brands. As I looked each time, my imagination took me to the point where I'd own one of those and literally drive it one day.
I did not really know what they were. In my young teenage mind, this was the perfect vehicle designed for people my age. Looking back, I think to myself, why didn't I consider that none of those 'cars' plied the roads?
Well, one day I blurted out my yearning for that contraption and to my utter amazement, my mum disclosed the most astonishing news to me: they were coffins! Coffins that looked like cars!
All along, I was admiring something meant for the dead! I wanted something that was definitely not designed for me, for I was full of life and vigour and energy and youth and beans!
But I settled for a 'coffin car' because I did not know what it was! Brings to mind the words of Jesus to those grief-stricken women at His grave: Why are you looking for the living among the dead?
Why do we go round in circles all our lives looking at the wrong picture, obsessed by the wrong picture, consumed by the wrong picture? Ignorance!
We keep looking in the wrong place for lasting joy, for lasting peace, for lasting satisfaction.
But Jesus says, "I am the bread of life!"
In other other words, I am your satisfaction!
Oh! That you would realise that Jesus means more than the whole world! That you would recognize that Jesus is everything! You wouldn't look elsewhere for peace! You would look to Him! For by Him were all things made and for Him were all things made!
Jesus is your answer! Trust Him. Believe in Him. Live for Him!
Of course, I can't leave you without these thoughts: Guard your heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life...whatsoever things are pure...whatsoever things are of good report...think on these things!
This was also a random thought!
Cheers! Just believe!
