There was a guy who loved to smoke weed. He practically could not go a single day without a joint of weed.
He had some Gospel tracts that he had been using to carry out his smoking adventures. He kept using up the tracts for the smoking but he never bothered to read them.
One day, he had the final tract and was about to carry out his routine of smoking. However, the title of the tract caught his attention: 'God loves sinners.'
He paused and read the tract; the message had a blessed impact on his life! He wept and called upon the Name of the Lord and was gloriously saved!
In the gloriously captivating first equipment session of the Leadership Equipment Conference, participants consisting of tertiary students from campuses including UG, UCC, KNUST and KTU were blessed with an edifying message on 'How to become an effective soul winner.'
He shared three vital keys for becoming an effective soul winner viz.:
# You need to be prayerful
# Be bold; do not be afraid
# Be persistent with the message you're sharing.
Speaking on the need to be prayerful, Bishop Matthew Addae-Mensah explained that sinners' eyes are darkened by Satan. But God wants to deliver them from the power of Satan unto God as we preach the Gospel (Acts 26:18).
You need to pray for sinners because Satan has a grip on them.
As we pray, we break the power of the devil against sinners and they are liberated.
Jesus sent out the disciples in two's so that while one is preaching, the other would be praying.
On being bold, Bishop charged participants not to be afraid.
He pointed out that one of the devil's strategies is to intimidate you through the people you minister to. He cautioned attendees of the reality that in battles, one should expect surprises.
Reading from Jeremiah 1:6-8, which says, "Then said I, Ah, Lord God ! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child. [7] But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. [8] Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord."
He said that when we reach, we do not do it by our own power. We must go to everyone God sends us to because we have God's backing.
You must be bold because God is with you.
Bishop said, "People who are violent to the Gospel easily get saved."
He also encouraged us to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit as we will encounter powers when we preach the Gospel.
Boldness makes a whole wealth of difference (Acts 4:29).
If you're not bold you'll be confused.
Bishop finally talked to us about being persistent in what we're saying.
Keep on with what you're saying; stand on the truth.
He taught from Luke 18:1-7 that whatever we do consistently and persistently will yield excellent results. Initially, you may face opposition but God will give you the victory.
Remember that preaching the Gospel is not an exercise in futility.
Even if you preach and they don't receive Christ, you have sown the seed of the Gospel.
Be patient and stay the course; don't be swayed.
Pray with those you minister to whether they receive Christ or not; that indicates to them that you're genuine.
Get their attention by asking them about their dreams they have had which they are not happy about and pray for them.
