One of my top priority prayers has been Psalm 2:8. My heart yearns for what Paul declared in Romans 15:20 that he would want to go where the name of Christ has not been named. My desire has always been to reach those who have not known Jesus at all since they were born- those who have never heard His name. It has so been my 'obsession' that it got to a point I got disgruntled when I ministered to people and they already knew the Lord. I felt I was not doing much even though there was the opportunity to build up and encourage. I wanted more. I remember seasons of prolonged prayers- hours upon hours of travail in prayer, asking for the heathen for my inheritance. I wanted the souls of unsaved men to be saved. I was yet to see the manifestation of answers to this prayer.
Nonetheless, recently, nearing the final week of 2020, something glorious happened.
The first was with a teenager I met in the house. A team of painters had come to put some finishing touches to the house. They came in the morning to do so, and I was washing my clothes. At the tap, while fetching water to rinse my clothes and get them hanged, this teenage boy comes over holding a bottle. Apparently, he wanted to fetch some water to drink. As he did, I engaged him in a conversation and shared the Gospel with him. Before he left the tap, I led him to Christ in prayer! I was overjoyed! His name is Famous. The most beautiful part of all this is that later in the day, he came to me and told me he had deleted all the music on his phone- which was obviously not godly and that he would love for me to give him some Gospel songs and messages. I gladly loaded his memory card with them. I was stunned! Thanks be to God for such an amazing experience.
Then, on another day, I was on board a bus bound for Accra. I sat beside a young lady of about 20 years. Initially, I had not planned to share the Word with her but you know how necessity is laid on us. So I had a conversation with her about what she does and who she is. Irene is done with Senior High School but is not willing to go to the University. According to her, it's not because of financial constraints or anything. She just does not intend to go to the University. She would manage fine selling clothes, like she already does. I put in a word concerning how important it is to go to University.
As we talked, I asked her, "Are you a Christian?" She said, "Yes." I asked her, "Since when have you been a Christian?" She was stuck! She couldn't answer. Apparently, she had never been to Church before- ever in her lifetime.
I walked her though from Genesis, showing her the message of salvation, right from the fall of Adam to the redemption of Jesus! By the time I was done, she was ready to receive Christ!
Right there in the moving bus, I led her to Christ. I was so elated about the fact that I got to minister to someone who had never known the Lord.
Fast forward to the final week of December 2020, I was invited to share a Word of exhortation at a Youth programme. I gave an altar call after my message but no one came forward. I also called for those who wanted to receive the Holy Spirit. One young lady was gloriously filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues for the first time.
After we closed, I was outside interacting with attendees of the programme. A 15 year old teenage girl walked up to me. She needed answers, for she was confused. The day before, she had been confirmed as an Eckist. To her, there was no Jesus. In her mind, there couldn't possibly be a man who died and rose from the dead.
She felt shy to come forward and publicly proclaim Jesus as her Lord. However, in her heart, she knew she needed Jesus.
She said, "I don't know what to believe." Fast forward, she made a commitment to Christ and was gloriously saved after hearing the Gospel preached again and praying the "sinner's prayer".
Though uncertain about the future due to her entire family involved in the religion of Eckankar, she desires to be grounded in the faith and to walk worthy of the Lord.
I gave her my Bible and instructed her to read the Gospel of John.
I am so grateful to God for the salvation of souls this last week of 2020 and I am looking forward to even more opportunities to win souls and disciple them.
Halleluyah! May the Father strengthen you Pastor Sam.
