Exams. The thought of that word evokes images of pensive moments of a student pinned to a seat for an hour or so, trying to account for that which s/he has been taught over several weeks or even months. The thought of that word makes some students want to puke. In fact, the thought of that word makes some students wonder why they even enrolled for an education!
But come to think of it, what is all one's learning if they cannot account for it either in writing or application in the real world?
Before exams, a lot of preparation is heavily invested. Nights and days of memorization, calculation and practice precede the day of the exam. And many students will do any and everything to emerge excellent by diligently revising their notes and textbooks.
How interesting it is that for mere earthly exams, people work themselves up to attain the highest standard of excellence!
However, we pay little or no attention to preparing for the most significant assessment which precedes a never-ending season of our lives- eternity!
How sad it is that the written Word of God has been neglected and men seek after that which excites and appeals to the senses and the emotions instead!
How awful it is that men- even gods- have sought after that which is fleeting to the detriment of the nourishment of our inner man!
How appaling it is that God's people now depend on hear-say to build solid convictions of who they are and who God is. No depth! For they have forsaken the Holy Writ!
How is it that you have now become a stranger to your own Bible!? They say, "Whenever I begin to read, then I fall asleep."
Jesus explained that the one who hears His words and does them is like a man who built his house on a rock, and when the floods came and the winds blew and the rains came, the house was unmoved (study Matthew 7:24-27). No wonder David declared that the one who trusts in the Lord is like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved (see Psalm 125:1).
The Lord wants your heart. Your heart must desire Him above all else. That will condition your entire being to desire His Word, go for it, meditate on and live it.
Oh! How He wants His Word to have vent and expression in our lives, daily!
If one can spend endless hours behind books, researching, revising, and thinking, in order to emerge excellent in an earthly exam, how much more diligence we need to give to preparing for eternity by studying God's Word, every moment of our lives, having it ringing in our hearts, working in our minds and manifesting through our bodies!
That is God's plan! He wants us to become the Word, to be conformed into the image of His Son (Romans 8:29-30).
Why did He send you the Holy Spirit? To teach you, to guide you into all truth (John 14:16,26)!
The Word of God in you is your greatest asset against the darkness in this world, for it is light!
Jesus calls you today! Come to Him and receive Him! He is your satisfaction; the bread of life that will fill you and make you whole!
