Life in the City (Part 11)

by Sandy Amponsah a.k.a. Kreative Sandy

"But Anita, I shouldn't have given in to Patrick. I just shouldn't. Now i have myself to blame," I said.
"Araba, it's alright. You don't have to kill yourself because you are pregnant. We will you through every bit of it. So you don't have to worry," Laudes consoled.
The thought of having committed the abortion brought fesh tears to my eyes.
"Oh God, can you ever forgive me," I whispered.
"Yes she needs the Word right now. She's even thinking of ending her life. She needs to know that God loves her and is at peace with her not because of what she has done but because of what Jesus has done. So please come and speak to her, she might listen to you"
I could hear Anita from the washroom as she spoke on the phone the next morning. Our washroom was right inside our room so we didn't need to go out of the room if we needed to use it. Laudes and Bertha had gone for early lectures. So I was alone with Anita.
"Who was she speaking to," I wondered.
"But Anita, really you don't have to worry yourself this much. I will be fine, okay," I said when i came out of the washroom.
"Aww i'm glad you are feeling better now"
"Better? I'm not better. I don't think I can ever forgive myself for what has happened. Anita, I came to the city to learn and become a great person not to get pregnant or commit an abortion," I let it out before I realized.
Anita looked at me in shock.
"Araba you aborted the baby?" Anita said when she finally found her voice.
"Oh dear! We know you weren't prepared for a baby but an abortion is too much,"
"Now you understand how I'm feeling right? Anita, all my life I have tried to live right and please God, why now?"
There was a knock on the door and Anita attended to it. It was the same guy who knocked on the door the other time.
"Araba how are you doing," AB said as he walked in and sat on the sofa in our room.
"I'm fine," I responded.
"Araba, this is Pastor AB, he is one of the pastors at Christ Nation. He's been of great help to Bertha, Laudes and myself. He can be of great help to you too dear," Anita said.
I looked on in displeasure.
"I hope Anita isn't going around telling everyone about what had happened," I thought to myself.
"Yes Araba, Ps. AB said, you know once in a while we make mistakes or walk into trouble deliberating but that doesn't change the nature of God. Infact, our sins no matter how big they are aren't big enough to alter God's nature of love. God is love and that's why he loves. So we can expect God to love us even in our greatest mess. The bible says God demonstrated his love to us when we were still sinners. God poured out his love unto you when you were unified with sin, when you were a sinner.
"Hmm! But I have never been a sinner. Since childhood, I've been very good and I've served God throughout," I said.
"Araba, you see, being a sinner isn't about how good or bad you have been. It's about whether or not you have the nature of sin. You see, when Adam transgressed in the garden of Eden, he took on the nature of sin from the devil. Since we all come from Adam who's the first man, we are born with the nature of sin," he explained.
"So you mean, everyone is born a sinner? What if they are good people?" I asked somewhat confused.
"Dear, as I said earlier, being a sinner has nothing to do with your actions. It has everything to do with inheriting the sin nature at birth," he said.
I got more confused. How could I have been a sinner? My parent too are good people as well as my uncle? How could they all have been sinners before they accepted Christ," I thought to myself.
"Okay Ps. AB, you meant to say that with some people, before they got born again, they used to live bad lives and so were sinners right? " I said in attempt to comprehend what he was saying.
"Not at all dear. What I'm saying is that everyone is born a sinner because the first man Adam was a sinner. All men came from Adam. So if Adam was a sinner then it means all men are sinner. The same way you were born with your father's DNA, everybody was born with a nature of sin because the first man Adam inheirted a nature of sin from the devil. Let's read something from Romans 5:21. Araba, please read it for us," Ps. AB said.
I took my phone, opened to the verse and read it
Romans 5:12
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
You see, by one man Adam, sin came into this world. So everyone born after Adam was born in sin. So a sinner is not a person who does wrong but a person born with a nature of sin.
"Then that means everybody is born a sinner per your explanation," I remarked.
"Exactly Araba," Ps AB said.
His phone began to ring afterwards. He spoke to the person and asked to leave for something urgent.
"Anita, where did you say this guy is from? And how did he help you? By preaching such strange things? Hmm! Wonders will never end," I said when Ps AB was gone.
"Don't worry, with time you will understand it and you will soon be set free,"Anita said.
"Free from what? Does it look like I've been tied? I've been living right all my life and now he's telling me I was a sinner before I accepted Christ, how is that possible? " I Said and chuckled?
To be continued.....
Have you ever tried preaching the gospel to someone with Araba's attitude? If yes, how did you go about it? Or have you been in Araba's position before?
