One Saturday evening, the Lord blessed me with a rare opportunity to behold a motor accident happening right in front of me...but by His grace I was unscathed! Glory to God!
This is what happened:
I was about to cross the road at the 37 roundabout. Here came from my left a huge black pickup (the unusual kind...I think it was a Tundra).
The car was being driven at an incredibly top speed. It so happened that the driver crossed the red light at that speed.
Now, the unfortunate thing is that lights were green for cars coming from the road the goes across the Tundra's lane. And so as this Tundra was speeding, a Corolla was also taking a turn around the round about.
They collided and strangely the Tundra got more damaged than the Corolla, which was actually still on its way to its destination after the incident.
Nonetheless, the Tundra was pushed off the road over a ledge and hit some pillars that were on the ledge. The Tundra really got damaged.
How sad!
As I watched what happened, I decided not take another glance and crossed the road on my way to board a bus to campus.
The moment I got on board the bus, the Lord whispered a Scripture to me which served to show me that the accident I saw was a parable. He gave me Proverbs 19:21 which says, "There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord , that shall stand."
Here are some observations from the accident:
# The driver had gotten to crossroads. He was required to stop but he did not. How many times have you rushed into things simply because you were so excited at the thought of the seemingly beautiful future ahead that you did not consider the consequences of your decisions?
# The cars represent our destinies. The driver of the Tundra obviously had a more sophisticated car which doubtless was more expensive. I realized that he/she was on his/her way somewhere and the driver of the Corolla was on his/her way somewhere, too. We may have different assignments but we all have One glorious destiny: to become like Jesus.
That rash decision taken would wreck his car, requiring time, resources and the ability to recover from injury that may have been caused.
In the same vein, sometimes one rash decision may cause you to have to get stuck at one point in your life along time to solve problems that could have been avoided and you may in turn wreck someone else's life.
Where will your current "love" relationship lead you? I feel for someone reading this that one wrong decision you made in gratifying your sexual desires have landed you in circumstances you don't like. But the Lord says fear not! For He does not condemn you. He loves you more even now; return to Him today.
You see, there is another point worth noting about this accident. I think the driver was speeding probably because he/she was distracted by a phone call or a conversation with another person in the car. How often we get distracted and swayed from our core calling. We get involved in other things (which may not necessarily be bad but will doubtless not enable us to fulfil God's plan for us). God's instruction to you is simple: seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.
Don't allow the temporary cares of this life to lead you into rushing into things you must not get involved in.
In essence, the accident I witnessed taught me to;
# Focus on Jesus
# Listen to Him only
# Not be distracted by things other than my assignment on earth
# Live only for His glory, making decisions based on His Word and the counsel of His Spirit.
Remember, "There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord , that shall stand." (Proverbs 19:21).
